Where does the time go? One moment we are in summer, the next the weather turns colder and wetter.
I figured that this would be more of a catch-up post than anything else. I hope to post something at the beginning of October just to lay out my plans – both long and short term.
So where do I start?
This summer has been really productive. Leading on from my last post, my main work throughout the summer months was the surf photography. Along with Harry, who was a photographer I employed to help on sessions, the summer has consisted of long days of photo taking and editing. While it was quieter than I thought it would be, the experience gained from running my own business, although it didn’t feel like running a business, was insurmountable. Planning and structuring a payment system, accounts and website/editing logistics was both tedious and enjoyable to do.
An update on the film
The film ‘Kelp!’ was graded and released, and you can watch this through the link in my portfolio. I’m happy with the final piece, especially seen as the film is 30 minutes long – that’s a lot of clips to go through! For my first long form feature this was tough, but I’m glad I stuck it out and finished the piece to a high enough standard.
An update on my other projects…
Over summer I worked with One Water, a foundation that funds global water projects through the selling of their water products. I produced a selection of 5 photos for 5 products over a few weeks. Working with multiple groups of people at different locations was fun to plan and work on, especially when most shoots were in beautiful locations around North Cornwall. Working for a larger brand can sometimes feel daunting, but just making sure everything is well planned and thought through is the way to creating great pieces of work, I find.
And an update on the future…
While I continue working with my photography, my long(ish)-term goal is to go travelling while I still am able to without too many commitments tying me down. While this is planned for early next year, I am starting to commit more to working on my colour grading. This will include looking for more projects, as well as working on the last parts of my course and brushing up on my skills as the last few months I have neglected the practice. My aim is to either start freelancing more, with both photography and grading, or find a job out of Cornwall and work my way up the ladder. While I know there are a fair few months still left of the year, I need to make the best use of my time in order to get to where I want to be.
