#1 – Getting Started, The Future, and 10 Seconds of your time

I’ve never been one to write about what I am doing or have done. In fact, while I’m writing this I feel a bit anxious. It kind of reminds me of Primary School where we had to write about what we did that weekend; what I ate, where I went – it was all based on what I had done and what was in the past. Perhaps the reason why I feel anxious is because I’m writing about the future. This is something that I haven’t done much of, but it’s something that I have wanted to start for a long time now. If anything, this is just a way of keeping my thoughts and ideas in one place rather than the endless sprawl of post notes that are stuck around my desk.

So, I thought I should begin by explaining who I am and what I do.

Let’s keep this brief. My name is Celyn and I am a recent graduate of Falmouth University, where I studied Marine and Natural History Photography. Currently I live in North Cornwall, U.K, with hopes of making my way into the film industry. Right now I am currently building my portfolio and revising everything that I have done in the past few years so that I am ready for whatever comes next.

Well, what is next?

I currently have a loose plan in my head. My girlfriend and I are hoping to move up to Bristol soon with hopes that it will be easier to find more jobs, meet our friends, and also experience a change of scenery. I’m hoping to find some sort of job in the film industry, but my back up plan will be freelancing. I am currently doing an online course for Colour Grading and I am working on my product photography and videography so that I may actually earn some money through my craft. The next few months are for me to work on my brand, build up a portfolio and most of all have a more definitive plan set up for the end of summer.

I thought that writing this blog would help me in preparing for the not too distant future. That it will be something that I can compile all of my work into from the past month and be able to reflect on this and prep for the month ahead. Simple.

I hope this is something I will continue (touch wood) as it’s also something different that I can break up my day with.

10 Secs / 10 Seconds

Something that I have been thinking about a lot recently is the idea of short form product photography/videography and the way that we as an audience process short form media. With the likes of reels being a thing now, I thought I’d start exploring and learning more about short form media and how much of an impact 10 seconds can have on a person.

With my portfolio growth in mind, I figured this would be the best option to bulk it out a bit, whilst also creating the highest quality content.

Creating snappy mock campaigns will also change the way that I think about planning. While I’m used to longer formats of film, I think this will be a fun, less time consuming way to create pieces, especially when I’m trying to do a thousand other things at the same time.

I hope to keep these blogs short and concise, with one or two coming out every month. My main plan is to have one main project per month which I can work on, but also talk about other things that have sprung up. They won’t be as long as this one, but I may surprise myself and write more, you never know.

I have no idea who will read this (I’m guessing it will only be me) but I look forward to reading back through the blog posts at some point and looking at the progress I have made.

Until next time.
